Hey Everyone!
My name is Jennifer Yurky, but I go by Jenny. I am a Middle
Level Math and Science Education major and I am also earning a minor in
environmental studies. My placement is
at Titusville Middle School in 8th grade math.
I will also be spending two periods a day in 8th grade science.
I am originally from Homer City, Pa, which is near IUP. I love to dance and have taken lessons since
I was three years old. I have studied
everything from pointe to hip hop. I am
also an avid runner. I love fishing and
any type of outdoor adventure sport.
When I can't be outside, I love to spend my time reading. My favorite book is The Little Prince.
I have always pictured myself as teacher and truly love
working with kids. For the past few
summers, I have worked at a summer camp as a counselor. This is truly the best job I have ever had.
My first two days of student teaching were fabulous. My Co-op is great and I feel as though I will learn a lot from her. I am very excited to begin planning lessons
and teaching the students, which will likely begin towards the end of next week. I have
already had the opportunity to participate in some of the activities with the
students in my classroom, which has been great.
The students already seem to accept me as one of their teachers and I
feel very comfortable in the classroom.
Jenny,
ReplyDeleteI would have to agree that being a camp counselor is a great position to have, especially with going in to teaching!! I worked at a camp for kids and adults with disabilities, and I would have never learned the things I did at camp, in a classroom. The hands on experience is the greatest experience there is! So I am glad to hear that there are others out there that have worked at camps and have had those experiences as well! Have fun in you placement :) I'm sure some of your campers have helped you prepare! :p
