Hello! My name is Chris Ammer. Im majoring in Sec. Ed. Social Studies. Today I finsihed my second day as a student teacher at Cambridge Springs High School, and im still alive. After practicum I felt very nervous and overwhelmed. Basically to me all they said that day was that our lives were going to be awful for the next 16 weeks and if we failed then our lives are ruined, also to try and dress nice. This is how I felt right up until I got home after my first day of teaching. My co-op is clearly a great educator. He truely cares about his students and is quick to call them on their bs but even quicker to compliment them on their strenghts. He is a bit more traditional than my field co-op but all in all I believe he will help me greatly through the student teaching process. On monday I learned my co-op was taking students on a field trip that day, thus leaving me with 3 classes of students ive never met. I quickly took initiative and taught his lesson to the classes, throwing my own personal twist on them of course, and let the sub just sit at the desk. I hadent taught since field which I did back in fall of 2012. I was nervous but I knew that this was something I had done before, I could handle, and most importantly something I loved. Today I found out that the students as well as the sub thought i did a wonderful job. I now know that even though this will be a lot of work, there is no need to be worried, nervous, or have any doubts. I look forward to the rest of the semester and the chance to fully take over his classes.

Chris,
ReplyDeleteI love that you jumped in right away and decided to take the initiative to teach the lessons that your teacher left for the sub! It shows a lot about who you are as a person and as a teacher! My co-op was in and out most of the day the other day because she had so many different things that would call her out of the room. So I also had to jump right in and take initiative. But I am much more comfortable doing that than sitting and not helping/doing anything!! Keep up the good work :)
Chris,
ReplyDeleteThats so awesome that you just took over like that! I would have been terrified haha but good for you! I am also at Cambridge high and I did my field experience there last year as well. It really is such a good school with the greatest and nicest faculty. Good luck to you and I am sure I will be seeing you around the building!
