Chapter 2

How effectively do you feel you discuss and implement the rules of the classroom with your students?  After reading and reflecting on the secrets of this chapter, what changes do you foresee making when you have a classroom of your own?
I never realized how it important it was to use procedures rather then rules. This chapter made me think a lot about organizing a classroom. The class that I am teaching now has procedures that they are very familiar with. They know what is expected of them and because of that I didn't really have to implement my own procedures for the classroom.

I like how this book puts everything into perspective and makes it so easy to read and understand. After reading this chapter I think it is very important to follow the six steps of making rules into a procedure. This is something that my co op believes strongly in. She has told me since day one that you cant make the kids seem like they have to do something or will be punished. She said the best way to go is to make it seem like they are choosing to do it. This chapter has showed me that she was completely right. In class I have noticed that students are much more motivated and feel more confident after you compliment them. They also seem to behave better when you don't completely over react over a certain situation. That is something I've seen many times in a classroom and the students just don't listen.
I really am enjoying reading this book. Its helping me to think of things I would never think of when teaching.
