Introduction - Amy Kelso

Hi everyone!  I am Amy Kelso and in December 2011 I received an Associate's degree in Preschool Education with a minor in Special Education.  In May I will earn my Bachelor's degree as a dual major in Early Childhood/Elementary Education.

I appreciate the experience I have gained from the McKean YMCA as the head preschool teacher last year.  My classroom management skills are a result from that experience that I have been able to use during student teaching.  This past summer I worked at the County YMCA as a summer camp counselor for the first grade kiddos going into second grade.  I learned A LOT about patience, lesson planning in and out of the classroom, how to learn from my students!  I've done volunteer work for the ESO dances through the CEC Club as the Vice President for two semesters.  I went to a couple of the PACEC Conferences and learned many valuable traits from others.  Also, I have worked at the Edinboro Walmart since 2008 as a Customer Service Manager.  The job has taught me how to manage more than just myself, co-work with others, and problem solve.

I loved, loved, loved my first student teaching placement at McKean Elementary in the first grade.  The students were all unique in their own ways and always knew how to put a smile on my face!  My cooperating teacher was more than willing to teach me everything that she knows from her 21 years of teaching.  Unfortunately I had to deal with the loss of my Grandpa during this placement.  I can honestly say those children and my co-op helped me through the heartache of losing such an influential man.  I learned a great deal in my first placement and miss them all!  I'm positive that my next placement at Union City Elementary will be just as influential!  I love third grade so I'm sure I will have a blast. :)

In my down time I love to read and be outside as much as possible...in warmer climates that is!  I play co-ed slow pitch softball in the summer.  I scrapbook when I can and surround myself with my family, boyfriend, his daughter and my friends!  I'd be lost without them and their support!!

  1. Hello Amy! You have a very busy schedule from the sounds of it. It also sounds like you really enjoy teaching. That is something that will take you a long ways, the drive. I also am a head start teacher at a day care during the summer, so I know how challenging that can be at times. Good luck with everything and your second placement. I hear Union City Elementary is a wonderful place!
