January 30 post Sarah Busch

Hello all! My name is Sarah Busch. I am a senior with a dual major in Early Childhood and Special Education and, like everyone here, beginning my student teaching experience.

I am an only child and live in a suburban town outside of Pittsburgh. Along with my parents my dog is also a member of our family. Outside of school, I am a sister of Alpha Sigma Tau. Much of my free time is dedicated to the sorority, including philanthropy events, fundraisers, and sisterhoods. I enjoy staying active by running, swimming, going for walks and biking with friends, etc. I recently took up scrapbooking and cooking in my free time. I live off campus with 3 others girls and enjoy spending time with them as well as my sisters.

Today, like many others, was my first day of student teaching. To sum up my first impression of student teaching I would say it was an exciting, but overwhelming day. I immediately can tell I will be learning a lot from my cooperating teacher and this placement. This greatly excites me. However, it also has me feeling very overwhelmed. Most of the day was spent observing and learning about my cooperating teacher's routine that I will be taking over within the upcoming weeks. I got time to work with his students throuhgout the day as well. I already feel like I am getting to know the students which is great! Hopefully as things get settled my feelings of being overwhelmed will be less frequent. Good luck to everyone! I hope you all had a great first day in your placement.

  1. Sarah,

Our first day of student teaching seems to mirror each other's experience! I went in excited, and came back out with an addition of severe panic! I got lost on the way home and had time to worry and reflect. It is important to remember that you would not be in a classroom if many people did not believe you belonged there. I know you personally and have seen you teach. Although there is always room to grow, you have outstanding teaching skills and your passion will always get you through! Stay positive! :)

  2. I'm really glad you're getting to know your students so quickly! I already knew some of the sixth graders in my classroom, which helped. I am trying my best to learn names and relate to students, which I think is going to be harder than last year since I'll have more than twice as many students.
I think the overwhelming feeling you're experiencing is pretty universal, but I think it will be alleviated as we get into routines and learn the expectations. Good luck!
