I think this chapter was filled
with a lot of valuable information regarding classroom management. I know that for me personally, classroom
management seems to be one of the more stressful aspects of teaching.
I feel as though it is somewhat difficult to
effectively implement many of the strategies suggested in this chapter during
our semester of student teaching. At
least for me, I entered into a classroom where there are already rules and
procedures established. Because of this,
it is hard to introduce new rules of my own or to allow my students ownership
of the rules if they were not originally involved in their development. However, I do believe these suggestions will
be very beneficial in my own future classroom.
Also, there are many suggestions
from this chapter of the text that I can implement in my student teaching
placement. For example, I can definitely
work on being the proactive teacher described in this chapter. This is something that I really think all teachers should work on. I think that is something that I am already
doing as well. I work hard to make sure
that I plan engaging lessons that keep my students involved. I try to consistently enforce the rules and follow
the procedures that my students are used to.
When
thinking about my future classroom, a lot of the things mentioned in this
chapter are aspects that I envisioned.
We learned throughout our education courses about the importance of
having rules and procedures and how it can be very effective for our students
to be a part in their development.
Overall, I think that this chapter had a lot of helpful tips when it
comes to being effective at classroom management.
Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteI agree with your statement about being incapable of implementing these tips for our own classroom management. I have a few students I work with, where their routine is crucial. Therefore, if I tried switching procedures it would be unhelpful rather than helpful. I think as long as you reflect on how you would do things differently if you could have started at the beginning of the school year that is plenty!
Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteI also agree with you about placing these rules into the classroom. Although my teacher has a clear list of what she expects in the classroom I feel as if it is hard to implement my own procedures into her classroom. I am just using this chapter to invision on what I hope to do in my own classroom.
